Cocaine :: essays research papers
Cocaine Early on in his career, Eric Clapton seemed to have a difficult time sticking to one band. He played with the Yardbirds, John Mayallââ¬â¢s Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, and Cream. But throughout all the time he spent with each of those bands, no solo work was ever thought of until 1970. It was in 1970 that Clapton launched his solo career with his self-titled debut album. His first album had only one real hit, so to speak, with ââ¬Å"After Midnight,â⬠but is still regarded as one of his better works. Many felt that it was more of a D&B&F album,that merely featured Clapton on guitar. This was due to the amount of time he had been spending with the group, after he went ââ¬Å"solo.â⬠Before his debut album was ever released, Clapton had formed a band with some of the D&B&F members called Derek and the Dominos. He played with them for most of 1970. In 1971 and 1972, Clapton was not heard from, at least not musically, as he was battling a heroin addiction that cut two years out of his early work. But, on January 13, 1973, Clapton stormed back with a live performance at the Rainbow Theatre in London. That spawned his next record, ââ¬Å"Eric Claptonââ¬â¢s Rainbow Concert,â⬠which, obviously, featured live performances. It wasnââ¬â¢t until a few months later, in 1974, when Clapton had a substantial solo career, with the release of ââ¬Å"461 Ocean Boulevard.â⬠That record had the number one single, ââ¬Å"I Shot the Sheriff,â⬠which is still a popular song to this day. In 1975 and 1976, Clapton released three records, as follow-ups to ââ¬Å"461 Ocean Boulevard.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s One in Every Crowd,â⬠ââ¬Å" E.C. Was Here,â⬠(live) and ââ¬Å"No Reason to Cry,â⬠respectively, had no where near the success of his previous album. But, thankfully, in 1977, Clapton released ââ¬Å"Slowhand,â⬠which had mega-hits with ââ¬Å"Lay Down Sally,â⬠ââ¬Å"Wonderful Tonight,â⬠(which was a million seller) and ââ¬Å"Cocaine.â⬠Originally written by country-rocker J.J. Cale (who also wrote ââ¬Å"After Midnightâ⬠), ââ¬Å"Cocaineâ⬠was a bluesy-soul-rock song that, essentially, was about what Cocaine can do for you, and gave tips about what to do while high on Cocaine. If you wanna hang out youââ¬â¢ve got to take her out; cocaine. If you wanna get down, down on the ground; cocaine. She donââ¬â¢t lie, she donââ¬â¢t lie, she donââ¬â¢t; cocaine. If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues; cocaine.

Organisms Physiology Essay
Organism Physiology is the method in which many diverse living organisms are considered to have developed from earlier forms during the history of the earth that can be defined as Evolution. Several organisms have evolved as a result of environmental changes within their habitats. Example is a diagram of a whale and details about how the whale has evolved physiologically and has become adapted to fit the environment. Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Cordata, Class: Mammalia, Order: Cetacea, Sub-order: Odontoceti, Family: Delphinidae, Genus: Orcinus, Species: Orca. Whales occupy all oceans and major seas, even some are in larger river systems. They are very large animals. They can grow up to 100 ft. or more in length. They can weigh up to 200 tons or more. Whales live in families called pods. These pods vary in numbers and consist of family members and family friends. Whales live in these families their whole life. Group living is safer when other whales or sharks attack. It also makes it easier to find food. Whales are always migrating. They travel to find food, breed and have young. Whales do not have eyelids. They rely on thick oily tears to protect their eyes. Whales hear from little holes behind their eyes. They talk to each other by making high pitched sounds like whistles, clicks, squeaks, rattles, and groans. Whales inhabit all oceans and the seven seas; some also inhabit larger river systems. They are extremely social organism and use communication for the function of hunting, defense, and reproduction. In general a dolphins live pods of up to a dozen individuals. Dolphin pods can emerge temporally forming a super pod the emerging pods may exceed thousands of dolphins. Attachments in pods are not set; interchange is regular. On the other hand, whales can generate great social bonds; they will remain with wounded or individuals in poor hea lth, even assisting other whales to breathe by bringing them to the surface if required. Whales arewidely classed as predators, but their food ranges from microscopic plankton to very large fish. Males are called bulls; females, cows. The young are called calves. Because of their environment, whales are conscious breathers: they decide when to breathe. All mammals sleep, including whales, but they cannot afford to fall into an unconscious state for too long, since they need to be conscious in order to breathe. Whales also communicate with each other using lyrical sounds. Being so large and powerful these sounds are also extremely loud depending on the species. The most dangerous predator for the whale is mankind and climate change. Man slaughters whales for their meat, fat, and for being in the same location where they fish. There studies at this time being done to evaluate the influence of pollution in the water and the effects on whales. Whales are threatened by climate change and global warming. As the Antartic Ocean warms, krill populations, that are the main food source of some species of whales, reduce dramatically, being replaced by jelly like salps. . Whales give birt h to live young, and the mother nurses the calf with her milk and provides care. The calf is nursed by the mother for one and one half years to three years and a mother will stay with her young three to eight years. Whales are thought to live about 40-80years. Whales vary basis of their ecosystem and what is necessary for them to survive in their ecosystem (Getten, 2006). All whales, dolphins, and porpoises species are related. Fossil data has been discovered from the early Eocene epoch that point toward information that whales were already aquatic 45-50million years ago. It is thought that animals that spent a great amount of time hunting for food around water areas and went through a period in an amphibious stage before becoming adapted to live in the water and the animal became dedicated to the water. Records show that by in their teeth it took millions of years for true cetaceans to develop (Brakes, Simmonds 2011). The whale has adapted to the environment in many ways from the once amphibious animal it is thought to have evolved from. Fossil evidence reveals that after prehistoric whales decided to be aquatic, it did not take long for bones of the hind limbs to disappear. The front limbs evolved into flippers and the powerful tail is their most important forward motion mechanism. Anatomically, dolphinsââ¬â¢ bodies have adapted to become more efficient to move in the water. Whales, like dolphins are m arine mammals and like all mammals they require oxygen toà survive. Unlike other sea creatures such as fish, a whale would suffocate in water if it did not have a blowhole for oxygen. The blowhole is situated on or near the top of their head and acts as an airway passage for breathing. Whales cannot breathe through their mouth because the esophagus (food passage) and trachea (oxygen passage) are completely separated from each other. Although whales must breathe oxygen they can spend up to 90% of their lives underwater. The eyes of a whale are relatively small when compared to the rest of its body. Their eyes are well adapted to aquatic life and secrete oil used to lubricate and protect their eyes from debris and other chemicals in the ocean. They are not capable of secreting tears as humans do, but their cries can be heard vocally from many miles away. They have a condensed body with a somehow a tapered head that caused the vertebrae neck to fuse together. Instead of a main blood supply to the brain on the exterior of the neck, the whale blood flows through an artery in the vertebrae that supply a continuous supply of blood, which is most vital when diving into the depths of the ocean. The skin of a whale is extremely smooth, hairless, dense, and not do have glands. Their skin is kept smooth by continuously sloughing off and being restored. On average their skin is restored at a speed nine times faster than a human. Whales have a tendency to depend on their sense of hearing to survive. Other senses have had to adapt for survival in the blackness of the oceanââ¬â¢s deepness. The structure of the whaleââ¬â¢s melon (the fatty tissue in front of the blow whole) functions as a lens to direct sound when the dolphin generates high pitched clicks for echolocation. When the sound echoes back the small bone under the chin, called trepan bone, receives the sonic report and stimulates the brain by means of the inner ear. By means of echolocation, whales can estimate distance by measuring the time between releasing the clicks and the return of echoes. Through this incredible ability, whales can consider the size, shape, direction of movement, and distance of objects in the ocean water (Getten, 2006). In conclusion dolphins have adapted agreeably to survive in the depths of the ocean, seven seas and in large rivers systems. They have evolved in structure and ability to reproduce successfully and flourish. Having the intriguing ability of echolocation provides whaleââ¬â¢s considerable advantage while feeding in the environment in which they live. They are extrem ely energetic, gentle, and intelligent. The only main threats to whales are humans through various ways and climate change. If whales are left alone in their ecosystems their species would be able to survive successfully. But as the soon-to-be graduates are handed their diplomas, and we being the search, some of dread. A recurring theme in recent graduate job search is the lack of experience factor. Where do I get experience if no one is willing to hire me? ââ¬Å"What will set our resume apart from the rest?â⬠Easy answer, internships. Many students focus on gaining experience with internships to add to the resume. Work experience makes you more marketable as a job candidate; it also gives you the opportunity to fully understand the field you have chosen. Then you can truly enter your field with your eyes wide open. Employers are not only looking for experience, but the right experience. Organization Communication: Approaches and Processes by Katherine Miller explains five key concepts that can applied to any student building up their resume. These concepts include Robert Blake and Jane Moutonââ¬â¢s Managerial/Leadership Grid, division of labor, anticipatory phase of organizational socialization, activity coordination flow, and realistic job previews (RJPââ¬â¢s). It all began towards the beginning of November of 2014. I had just started my first internship as a social media coordinator for Boldly Unique. For the exclusive use of P. ISLAS GARCIA 4226 JULY 31, 2010 THOMAS R. PIPER HEIDE ABELLI Monmouth, Inc. Harry Vincent, executive vice president of Monmouth, Inc., was reviewing acquisition candidates for his companyââ¬â¢s diversification program. One of the companies, Robertson Tool Company, had been approached by Monmouth three years earlier but had rejected all overtures. Now, however, Robertson was in the middle of a takeover fight that might provide Monmouth with a chance to gain control. Monmouth, Inc. To do this they needed Monmouthââ¬â¢s financial strength. Dessex provided a solid base to which two other companies were added. In 2000 the Keane Corporation was acquired. The company had been highly profitable but suffered in recent years under the mismanagement of some investor-entrepreneurs. A series of acquisitions of weak companies with poor product lines eroded Keaneââ¬â¢s overall profitability. Discouraged, the investors wanted to exit their ownership position, and Monmouthââ¬âeager to add Keaneââ¬â¢s well-known and high-quality measuring and fastening tools to its lineââ¬âwas interested in the opportunity. It was clear that some of Keaneââ¬â¢s lines would have to be dropped and inefficient plants would have to be closed, but the rules, ratchets, and wrenches would play an important part in Monmouthââ¬â¢s product strategy. Monmouth further expanded into hand tools with the acquisition of the Kroll Electric Corporation. Kroll was the worldââ¬â¢s leading supplier of soldering tools to the industrial, electronic, and consumer markets. Liberiaââ¬â¢s Mental Health Care a Crucial Need for Improvement
Liberiaââ¬â¢s Mental Health Care: A Crucial Need for Improvement By Ernest S. Maximore INTRODUCTON Liberia, a country with 3.5 million population has only one mental specialist, Dr. Benjamin Harris and one psychiatrist hospital, E.S. Grant Hospital, which is not even a public hospital. It is practically nonexistent because of little or no support: wreck facility, lack of more psychiatrists and outpatient service dysfunctional. Mental health care, in effect is practically non-existent in the country. In addition, there are no specialized services for the developmental and mental health needs of children and adolescents, and no services for other vulnerable groups, such as geriatric patients. There are also no rehabilitation services for alcohol and other substance use disorders or for individuals with deficits and handicaps that result from their mental illness (National Health Policy, Republic of Liberia, 2009). Psychological Impact of the Liberian Civil War There is no doubt the Liberian civil war has had a grave impact on the psychological wellbeing of both combatants and non-combatants as well. How does Fitzgerald tell the story in chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby Free Essays
Fitzgerald uses Nick to introduce the readers to the evolution of ââ¬ËJames Gatzââ¬â¢ to Gatsby. Straight away Nick is telling the story in retrospect, once again which is an indication that the narrative is based more on his thoughts and interpretations than facts ââ¬â meaning his reliability canââ¬â¢t always be trusted, and starts the chapter about Gatsby straight away and how there is an ââ¬Ëambitious young reporterââ¬â¢ on his ââ¬Ëday offââ¬â¢ to question Gatsby. He is there to gain information from Gatsby about the rumours of him being a ââ¬ËGerman Naziââ¬â¢ and his popularity over the recent summer. We will write a custom essay sample on How does Fitzgerald tell the story in chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby? or any similar topic only for you Order Now This is actually a use of foreshadowing because they are not there for Gatsby but to question his ââ¬Ëaccepted hospitalityââ¬â¢ which is later seen in chapter 9 where people gather to reveal information about the ââ¬Ëmadmanââ¬â¢ Wilson and the death of Gatsby, not actually Gatsby himself, just the role he plays. This chapter is not told in chronological order, due to Nick admitting he tells the anecdote of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s past, first and Gatsby ââ¬Ëtold me all this very much laterââ¬â¢ which means Fitzgerald decided to show the reader of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s past of ââ¬Ëunsuccessful farm peopleââ¬â¢ to another lavish party Gatsby throws so the reader understand how he got from point A to B. This is also part of Nickââ¬â¢s manipulating narrative because we are told how Gatsby ââ¬Ëdidnââ¬â¢t get itââ¬â¢ (the money from Dan Cody) which paints Gatsby is a good light because he built up his own wealth from not wanting to be a ââ¬Ëjanitorââ¬â¢ anymore. However, its also the work of Tom do we understand Gatsby and Nick arenââ¬â¢t being completely open about his wealth because Tom suddenly suggests Gatsby is a ââ¬Ëbootleggerââ¬â¢ meaning Nick starts the chapter with an anecdote of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s heroic attempt to save Dan Codyââ¬â¢s yacht but refuses the admit h e then later created his money from illegal behaviour. The main setting of chapter 6 is Gatsby house. However, itââ¬â¢s seen at day time and night. In the day time we see how Gatsby has guests who include Tom Buchanan are ready to leave. They invite Gatsby but end up leaving without him. This shows how Gatsby isnââ¬â¢t really anyoneââ¬â¢s friend and that people really do use him for his ââ¬Ëhospitalityââ¬â¢ not friendship. This shows how ââ¬Ëtwilightââ¬â¢ contrasts against the ââ¬ËSunday afternoonââ¬â¢ to show how Gatsby is polite and welcomes people into his home but no one will repay the favour. This, however, could be another manipulation made by Nick to get sympathy for Gatsby because this is all told in retrospect meaning when we hear how, in chapter 9, that Nick is ââ¬Ëon Gatsby side and all aloneââ¬â¢ he could be using previous chapters, like 6, to manipulate the past. Fitzgerald also uses motifs and colour to tell the story in chapter 6. This is conspicuous when Daisy says to Nick, ââ¬Ëpresent a green card. Iââ¬â¢m giving out green-.ââ¬â¢ This is to show mouldy love because Daisy had previously said; ââ¬Ëif you want to kiss meââ¬â¢ which Nick would not want to do because he does not love Daisy, meaning the ââ¬Ëgreen cardââ¬â¢ is a representation of mouldy love. However, it must not be forgotten that Gatsby looks at the dock for the ââ¬Ëgreen lightââ¬â¢ before reuniting with Daisy, which could be a suggestion from Fitzgerald to show how Gatsbyââ¬â¢s and Daisyââ¬â¢s love has expired over the ââ¬Ë5 years next Novemberââ¬â¢ yet both of them are unable to admit it. This is also a use of foreshadowing because green can also represent freedom, freedom is actually what Tom and Daisy always seem to convey after something has gone wrong, meaning that they are able to move on swiftly after events, such as Gatsby and Myr tles death.
